Syntax Paintings

I have been exploring abstract compositions inspired by letter forms, tree branches, insect bodies and cell groupings. I have painted several canvases in this style, each inspired by a different word, one of which showed at Orchard St Paint Supply’s first group exhibition in lower Manhattan. I continue to explore the possibilities I can achieve with this style through painting alternate words in different configurations.

The letter is a beautiful parameter. The confines of letter structure provide artists with a very simple mold with which to experiment. Rather than accept them as rigid, I interpret letter forms as a vehicle to create compositions. It is an attempt to use type as a notion rather than a rule.
